Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has allowed Akwasi Asante to join Northampton Town on a 28 day youth loan that will start on January 1st.

Blues Striker Akwasi AsantiHughton wants the 19 year-old striker to gain precious first team experience and feels that a stint with Aidy Boothroyd’s Cobblers will reap benefits for the youngster.

Speaking to bcfc.com the Birmingham boss said:”This is a good opportunity for Akwasi and will really benefit his development.

“He is one of a few young players we are currently looking at with regards to making decisions as to whether or not they go out on loan or not.”

Hughton is referring to youngsters such as England Under-21 goalkeeper Jack Butland, who had a rewarding loan spell at Mark Yates’s Cheltenham Town, and striker Jake Jervis, who enjoyed a stint at Paolo Di Canio’s Swindon Town.
