Chris Hughton is hopeful that striker Nikola Zigic will be fit in time for Birmingham City’s Championship match against Southampton tomorrow.
But Zigic has been receiving intensive treatment all week and his inclusion would be a big boost for the Birmingham boss.
“We are hopeful with Ziggy,” Hughton told bcfc.com.
“He has improved as the season has gone on and we’re delighted with him.
“There is no doubt that he has the abilities to continue to improve and put in the performances that he has done of late.
“It’s not just about scoring goals for Nikola; it’s also about being a real strong presence up the pitch.
“He is a player that’s generally going to be marked very tightly but it is also about what else he can give the team and at the moment he’s doing very well.
“Some people don’t realise how hard he works and what sort of distances he covers for the team.
“We hope that his progress continues because he has missed a large chunk of the season and it is a very exciting time for him at the moment.
“He’s on the back of not only a very good performance but he also scored four goals, which for a striker is a real a feat and he’ll be very much looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Chris Hughton could also be positive about Marlon King’s inclusion now that he has recovered from a groin strain and Guirane N’Daw who is back at Wast Hills following his involvement in the African Nations Cup with Senegal.
“N’Daw arrived back today and was in training,” he said.
“He was a little bit tired but is otherwise fine. Marlon is also fine.”
