A philosophical Chris Hughton has admitted that Birmingham City’s glut of injuries have occurred at an unfortunate time but has stressed that these ‘sort of things are sent to test us’.
Caldwell joins Stephen Carr (knee), Keith Fahey (groin), Guirane N’Daw (hamstring), Boaz Myhill (thumb) and Jonathan Spector (thigh) on the sidelines.
All six of these players will miss Saturday’s Championship clash against Brighton & Hove Albion, but midfielder Jordon Mutch has an outside chance of travelling to the south coast after making good progress with his ankle injury.
Speaking to bcfc.com Hughton said: “These are the sort of things that are sent to test us.
“We are assessing Jordon and we are hoping he might be available for Saturday, but the others won’t be.
“We will assess them during the week and see if any of them will be available for the last game.
“It’s unfortunate for us that we are getting them at this moment, but you have to work around them. Fortunately for us we are looking a threat at the other end and we have been able to score goals. It’s just another thing to deal with and I’m sure we will.”
