Just as you thought Saturday’s exploit’s had taken it out of us all, there is one man who is not quite ready to rest yet. Lee Clark is hoping that a forthcoming meeting with the Blues hierarchy will give him an idea of the length of the purse strings he has to work with.
An urgent priority for the manager is the renegotiation of Chris Burke’s contract, which expires at the end of June. Burke is attracting interest from numerous Championship clubs but is thought to be hoping that a new deal at St. Andrew’s will come his way. As is normal during a summer for Birmingham City, the squad will be dissected and rebuilt, as Clark admits he has already spoken to free agents about a move to the club.
It is set to be a busy summer for the Blues boss as he seeks clarification on the financial backing at his disposal before he begins his wheeling and dealing. Federico Macheda who is soon to be out of contract at Manchester United, is a target.
