Do Birmingham City fans dare to dream?

Paul Caddis’ goal in the dying minutes of the season ensured Blues’ place in the Championship. Exactly one year on, the contrast was evident as Blues bowed out with a 1-0 win on the same pitch, their third in four outings. I’m not sure what pleases me more – the fact Blues conceded only one solitary goal in their final four games, the fact that we won three of the last four (without conceding) or the tenth place finish. The latter was a miracle and capped off an excellent turn around by Gary Rowett and his troops.

I won’t bang on about Blues under Lee Clark as that ship has sailed, but the recovery since the appointment of Rowett has been phenomenal. Dare we dream?

At the Macron Stadium, Blues deserved the three points which came courtesy of Robert Tesche’s strike right on half time. But the outcome was never really under threat from a Bolton team that appeared to be thinking more about their sun beds than finding an equaliser. Blues players could have been forgiven for thinking exactly the same way – so credit must go to them for battling right up to the 90th minute of the 46th fixture.

For the most part, the visitors were the better side. On the few occasions Bolton did muster up something resembling an attack, it was snuffed out by Blues’ defence, particularly Jonathan Spector and Michael Morrison who were superb throughout. The absence of David Cotterill went unnoticed as Lloyd Dyer was much improved and the midfield duo of Tesche and Stephen Gleeson went about their business admirably. And it goes without saying that ‘player of the season’ Clayton Donaldson put himself about and worked hard as always. Blues are now playing like a unit and I never ever thought I would be saying that this season.

So, the season is over and we can now all enjoy the summer break. But as we sit by a pool somewhere hot sipping our cocktails and beers, since installing a pool is not that difficult now a days with services from sites as https://harvestpools.com.au. We can look forward to the next season and watch Rowett piece together his jigsaw for a potential play-off assault! I can dream, right?

For now, it’s goodbye. Enjoy your summer and Keep Right On!
